Biography

Andy is a civil litigator with experience representing clients nationwide in state and federal court, including all District Courts in California, the U.S. Courts of Appeal for the 7th and Federal Circuits, and in administrative proceedings.  Andy has experience representing clients of all sizes: from Fortune 500 companies to startups.  He has substantial experience in complex commercial litigation.

Prior to joining Miller Barondess, Andy was a litigation associate at Fish & Richardson P.C. in Washington, D.C., and served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable William C. Bryson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.  He received his Juris Doctor with highest distinction from the University of Iowa where he was recognized for his scholastic achievements in the study of intellectual property.

Notable Representations
  • Secured a complete no-liability decision in a 31-day bench trial where the plaintiff, an ex-employee, sought more than $20 million in compensatory damages, as well as punitive damages, from a renewable-energy investment company.
  • Achieved a $15.8 million unanimous verdict following an 11-week jury trial for a large Southern California Toyota dealership group against Toyota Motor Sales.
  • Achieved a favorable settlement for a pay-TV provider in a carriage dispute with multiple Liberty Media affiliates.
  • Represented a local government entity during post-trial motions following an adverse jury verdict and achieved a nine-figure reduction in the damages award.
  • Represented a major networking firm on appeal of an adverse agency decision, leading to the Court vacating the decision.
  • Represented a pay-TV provider and its subsidiaries sued in a distant forum, leading to the dismissal or transfer of each case from the distant forum to the pay-TV provider’s home district.
  • Represented a technology startup facing a settlement demand and removal of the startup’s products from Amazon.com, and resolved the matter favorably.
  • Developed a brand protection strategy for a technology company facing massive counterfeiting of its goods.
  • Represented a semiconductor manufacturer in a case raising complex patent and contract issues and achieved summary judgment on all issues.
  • Represented a Smartphone manufacturer facing a Section 337 claim in the International Trade Commission.
