Dan Miller, one of the founding partners of Miller Barondess, LLP, is skilled at crafting a case strategy to accommodate each client’s unique interests and objectives. He has tried and won cases before juries and arbitration panels in California and around the country. Miller secured over $3 million in settlements from the City of Los Angeles on behalf of victims of sexual assault by two former LAPD officers (Miller worked closely with the DA, and the former narcotics officers ultimately pled guilty and were sentenced to 25 years to life in prison). He won an $11 million award for an affiliate of an LA-based global private equity firm against two telecommunication companies and their parent company based in Lebanon for breach of a reseller agreement, while defeating a $30 million counterclaim brought by the companies in Lebanon. He also won a multi-million-dollar award, including punitive damages and six-figure sanctions, for spoliation of evidence on behalf of an attorney who sued one of the top law firms in the country. Jason H. Tokoro, a partner with Miller Barondess, LLP, is an accomplished trial lawyer with significant victories for both plaintiffs and defendants. He is outside counsel for the County of Los Angeles and its Board of Supervisors. Tokoro defended the County as 2nd chair in an 11-day federal jury trial involving
photographs taken by County personnel following the tragic helicopter crash that killed nine individuals, including Kobe Bryant and his daughter. He won a 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling vacating a preliminary injunction ordering that the County and the City of Los Angeles house Skid Row’s homeless population within six months and deposit $1 billion into an escrow account to ensure the funds were being used appropriately (named a Daily Journal Top Appellate Reversal). He also won summary judgment on behalf of the County in an FLSA class action lawsuit relating to the State’s IHSS program, in which plaintiffs sought nearly $50 million (name a Daily Journal Top Defense Verdict). In addition to being recognized among the top litigators in Los Angeles, Tokoro is recognized by the Best Lawyers in America® in the area of Commercial Litigation.
