The Los Angeles Business Journal has named partners Skip Miller and Mira Hashmall to its prestigious 2025 Top 100 Lawyers list, recognizing their exceptional leadership and unwavering dedication to the legal profession. Additionally, Skip Miller was honored with the Legal Excellence Award at the publication’s Top 100 Lawyers Awards Reception, celebrating his distinguished career, visionary leadership, and profound impact on the legal field.
Skip Miller, a renowned trial lawyer, is celebrated for his strategic acumen in high-stakes litigation. With over 100 state and federal trials as lead counsel, Miller represents a diverse clientele that includes Fortune 500 companies, high-profile individuals, entertainers, public corporations, and governmental entities. In a notable case, he defended a client in a complex criminal conspiracy and securities fraud trial in the Southern District of California, securing a full dismissal of charges in December 2024 after a hung jury (10-2 in favor of acquittal). As counsel for the Woodbridge Liquidation Trust, Miller resolved a $1.3 billion Ponzi scheme case against multiple professionals, achieving substantial confidential settlements through mediation prior to discovery, thereby significantly reducing costs. He also defended a $240 million breach of non-compete claim tied to the sale of a $1.3 billion architectural hardware company, negotiating a confidential settlement for a fraction of the claim after filing strategic motions. Miller’s representation of the County of Los Angeles includes federal litigation on homelessness and recent devastating wildfires, as well as a $119.5 million settlement against SoCalGas for the Aliso Canyon gas leak, the largest natural gas leak in U.S. history. Additionally, he successfully defended the City of Inglewood and Mayor James Butts, Jr., against Madison Square Garden’s efforts to block the Intuit Dome, the new LA Clippers arena near SoFi Stadium.
Mira Hashmall, an accomplished trial lawyer with over 20 years of experience, excels in handling complex employment and high-stakes commercial litigation. As a certified appellate specialist for the past decade, Hashmall combines trial and appellate expertise to deliver seamless, strategic representation. Her practice encompasses whistleblower retaliation, wrongful termination, and FEHA claims involving harassment, retaliation, and discrimination. Clients rely on her deep case insight and tactical acumen, particularly as she guides them from trial through appeal. Notably, Hashmall secured a landmark victory by overturning an $8.1 million FEHA retaliation and harassment judgment against Los Angeles County in favor of former LASD Deputy Andrew Rodriguez. After winning a reversal from the California Court of Appeal, she secured a voluntary dismissal from Rodriguez on the fourth day of retrial. On April 8, 2025, Hashmall argued before the California Supreme Court in Brown v. City of Inglewood, et al., addressing whether elected public officials qualify as “employees” under Labor Code section 1102.5(b) for whistleblower protection. This case builds on her prior success in the California Court of Appeal, where she secured a ruling that an elected official in Inglewood could not pursue a whistleblower retaliation claim under section 1102.5, as elected officials are not “employees.” The Court of Appeal further held that the defendants’ anti-SLAPP motion to strike the official’s claims should have been fully granted. The California Supreme Court’s decision is expected soon.
