Los Angeles Business Journal – April 18, 2022: Women of Influence: Attorneys
We are proud to announce that Miller Barondess partner Casey Sypek has been honored for the second consecutive year on Los Angeles Business Journal’s list of Women of Influence: Attorneys. The women included on this exclusive list have been recognized for exceptional legal skill and achievement across the full spectrum of responsibility, exemplary leadership as evidenced by the highest professional and ethical standards, and for contributions to the Los Angeles community at large.
Casey Sypek is a business litigator who, in a ruling recognized as a DJ Top Verdict 2017, obtained a ground-breaking jury verdict against University of California in a gender discrimination case. She also represents 1.1 million Prius owners in a federal court putative class action against Toyota. Sypek and her team defeated Toyota’s motion to dismiss; and, after 17 months of negotiations and mediation, reached a preliminary settlement for the significant benefit of Prius owners. Among her other high-profile work, Sypek represented Kovac Film against PMC Retaliators and Fluke Studios involving financing and production of a feature-length motion picture. PMC brought claims against Kovac for breach of contract. Kovac counter-claimed that PMC and Fluke failed to meet funding and created significant production issues. After a three-week arbitration, the arbitrator rejected PMC’s claims and awarded Kovac more than $900,000 in damages for its counterclaims.
