Miller Barondess has secured a decisive win for the County of Los Angeles in federal court, where U.S. District Judge R. Gary Klausner dismissed, without leave to amend, a high-profile civil rights lawsuit brought by plaintiff Parker Seitz. Read coverage in the L.A. Times.
The Miller Barondess team includes Jason H. Tokoro, Jamil M. Aslam, and paralegal Tommy Ambrus. (Seitz v. County of Los Angeles, et al., No. 2:25-cv-08005-RGK-RAO (C.D. Cal. Feb. 25, 2026)).
The case stemmed from allegations that off duty L.A. County Sheriff’s Department deputies assaulted Seitz outside The Break Room bar in Santa Clarita in November 2024, causing serious injuries, including a broken jaw and punctured lung, and that department officials then attempted a cover-up. The lawsuit targeted the County, multiple deputies, and the bar and its security, drawing significant media attention when initially filed.
After an initial dismissal in late 2025 (with limited leave to amend), the plaintiff filed a First Amended Complaint—only for Judge Klausner to rule again that the claims failed as a matter of law. This second and final dismissal ends the federal case without further opportunity for revision, representing a complete vindication for the County and Sheriff’s Department on these serious accusations.
