Partner Mira Hashmall has been named to the Daily Journal’s 2023 list of the Top Women Lawyers in California. This marks Mira’s fifth time being selected to the Top Women Lawyers list. View Mira’s Daily Journal profile here (subscription required).
Mira has a sophisticated litigation and appellate practice, notably achieving Top Verdict recognition on both the plaintiff and defense side. Her selection to the Top Women Lawyers list is attributed, in part, to her work defending Los Angeles County in a very high-profile federal court trial over graphic photos that County personnel took and shared of the helicopter crash that killed Kobe Bryant, his daughter, and seven others. Mira also represents the County in high-profile litigation challenging its handling of the homelessness crisis.
As the head of the firm’s appellate department, Mira recently won two important appeals – the first, reversing an $8.1 million jury verdict against the County in an employment retaliation suit brought by an ex-deputy sheriff. Mira did not handle the original trial, but she will handle the next trial set for 2024. The second was a favorable ruling from the Court of Appeal agreeing that then-Sheriff Alex Villanueva could not reinstate a deputy fired for domestic abuse.
