Biography

Adam is a business litigator admitted to practice in California and New York.  He represents clients in state and federal courts across a range of complex civil litigation matters, including contract, fraud, employment, and entertainment disputes.

A Miami Beach native, Adam received a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania.  He received his Juris Doctorate from Columbia Law School, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and member of the Columbia Business Law Review.

Prior to joining Miller Barondess, Adam was an associate at a national firm in New York and Santa Monica.

Notable Representations
  • Represented the County of Los Angeles in high-profile employment litigation brought by eight deputy sheriffs.  Won summary adjudication as to several claims.
  • Won a published decision from the California Court of Appeal on behalf of Prime Healthcare against a patient alleging that Prime had violated the Unfair Competition Law and the Consumer Legal Remedies Act by failing to disclose Evaluation and Management (EMS) fees charged in the emergency room through signage or other methods. This issue is currently pending before the California Supreme Court.
  • Worked with a Special Prosecutor appointed by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to successfully defeat former Maricopa County Sheriff Joseph Arpaio’s attempt to vacate a criminal contempt conviction.
  • Obtained vacatur of guilty verdict in a high-profile federal securities fraud case in the Southern District of New York.
  • Represented Pacific Investment Management Company (PIMCO) in connection with employment litigation filed by founder and former Chief Investment Officer William H. Gross.
  • Represented and performed an internal investigation for a Fortune 100 retail company in connection with a DOJ investigation relating to foreign commercial bribery and related internal investigation in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, South America, and the U.S.
  • Represented and performed an internal investigation for NIKE in connection with a DOJ investigation into corruption in NCAA basketball.
  • Defended a Fortune 500 healthcare company in connection with employment, contract, and fraud litigation brought by its former chairman and CEO.
  • Represented and performed an internal investigation for HSBC in connection with a DOJ investigation relating to the issuance of mortgage-backed securities, ending in a favorable settlement.
  • Obtained a favorable settlement for a high net-worth individual in a malpractice action against a Big Four accounting firm.
  • Represented victims of a terrorist attack in litigation against a major international bank, alleging violations of anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorism financing laws.
