Biography

Mark Barondess is a founding partner of Miller Barondess, LLP.  A lawyer for 33 years, he has earned a well-established national reputation as a respected aggressive civil trial advocate.  As a recipient of the Martindale-Hubbell Legal Directory highest “AV” rating, he is listed among its Preeminent Lawyers as distinguished by members of the area Bar and Judiciary.  Mr. Barondess has developed a national stature of respect amongst members of the Bar and Judiciary, especially in the area of the settlement or trial of complex high-profile litigation of matters in the entertainment and family law practice.  He regularly assumes representation of clients with cases that other attorneys have had difficulty, to resolve those matters with a proven track record of success.  Mr. Barondess has served as lead counsel in many well publicized and high profile cases and his appellate work has created important precedents.

The praise of the work of Mr. Barondess is well recognized.  Larry King called him “one of our nation’s top attorneys,” and Montel Williams echoed those words, terming him “one of the top lawyers in the country.”  An article in The Washington Post gave Mr. Barondess the unprecedented accolade of “superlawyer.”  Among others, Mr. Barondess represents entertainment legends such as Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee and the Present Chairman of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Nile Rodgers.  Other high-profile clients have included a former Presidential candidate, an Academy Award winning actress, two Emmy award winners, Grammy Award winners, and various sports legends including two Olympic Gold Medalists.  Mr. Barondess has also represented many members of Congress and senior officials in the Federal Executive Branch of Government.

Mr. Barondess is a graduate of Virginia Tech, (B.A. 1981) and George Mason University School of Law, (J.D. 1985).  Mr. Barondess was a Member of the George Mason University Law Review and a Recipient of the American Jurisprudence Awards in the areas of Civil Procedure and Domestic Relations.

  • Authored the best-selling book, What were you Thinking??, which provided valuable insights into the cycle of relations, marriage and divorce.  In addition to very favorable reviews from Publisher’s Weekly and others, Katie Couric praised the book as a “really fun book to read,” and even President Donald J. Trump joined in its praise stating that Mr. Barondess’ book contained “good solid advice based on experience.”
  • Serves as Vice-Chairman, General Counsel and as a Member of the Board of Directors of the We are Family Foundation, a not for profit organization founded by Nile Rodgers, which is dedicated to the vision of a global family by creating and supporting programs that promote cultural diversity while nurturing and mentoring the vision, talents, and ideas of young people who are positively changing the world.
  • Serves on the Board of Ambassadors of The Johns Hopkins Project Restore, which strives to restore hope, restore function and restore the lives of patients and families suffering with transverse myelitis and multiple sclerosis.
