Biography

Steven is a skilled commercial litigator with extensive experience in trial and appellate courts at both the state and federal levels. As a skilled writer and strategist, he effectively approaches disputes from a comprehensive perspective, achieving favorable results in trial courts and successfully defending those outcomes on appeal.

For defendants, Steven has won at every stage of litigation, including complex dispositive motions, motions to compel arbitration, and appeals. For plaintiffs, he has secured injunctive relief and helped obtain a substantial eight-figure settlement even before a lawsuit was filed.

His clients range from technology and energy companies to leading international retailers, private equity firms, construction owners, contractors, and entities within the National Football League. Steven’s experience encompasses complex business disputes, mass torts, trade secrets and non-compete cases, environmental issues, product liability, regulatory matters, and construction disputes.

A New Jersey native, Steven received his Juris Doctor from Rutgers University School of Law—Camden, where he graduated magna cum laude and was Editor in Chief of the school’s law review.  He also received his Bachelor’s Degree from Rutgers University.  Following law school, he clerked for the Honorable Brian S. Miller, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas, and the Honorable Rhesa H. Barksdale, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Before joining Miller Barondess, Steven was a counsel and a senior associate at two large international law firms.  He is licensed to practice in California and Texas.

  • Secured major summary judgment victory for the County of Los Angeles in high-profile First Amendment case brought by former sheriff.
  • Secured summary adjudication victory in favor of County of Los Angeles in years-long cases regarding permitting and property disputes.
  • Represented private equity client against prior counsel legal malpractice in connection with leveraged debt negotiations, and secured favorable pre-litigation settlement.
  • Represented international cyber-retailer in more than a dozen product liability lawsuits nationwide, including high-profile matters with allegations of serious injury or death.
  • Represented technology company in nationwide tort actions involving death and other serious injury, and helped secure numerous victories in both trial courts and courts of appeal, as well as motions to compel arbitration.
  • Represented international retailer in Texas mass tort action arising from third-party mass shooting at retailer’s store.
  • Represented various energy companies in California and Louisiana matters concerning alleged environmental contamination due to historic oil and gas activities.
  • Represented ownership group in construction dispute over NFL stadium that experienced massive schedule delays and cost overruns, and helped secure high eight-figure settlement even before a lawsuit was filed.
  • Advised steel fabricator in purchase of construction company that performed work on multiple NFL stadiums.
  • Represented energy company against the United States Department of Interior and ONRR in lawsuit relating to federal royalties and regulations.
  • Represented engineering contractor in construction dispute over first-of-its-kind pipeline project in Louisiana.
  • Represented petrochemical company in numerous Texas mass tort cases alleging flooding related to Hurricane Harvey.
  • Represented numerous employers on both sides of trade secret and non-compete disputes, successfully obtaining injunctive relief and defending against anti-competitive business practices.
  • Represented energy company in complex action over pipeline tariffs and rate disputes.
  • Represented airplane manufacturer in foreign litigation related to overseas aviation accidents.
